EAT AND LIVE.
The Story of the Widow of Zarephath and the Prophet in 1 kings 17:2-24 is a popular one. One remarkable lesson is that of Obedience on both the path of the Prophet to go to Zarephath and Obedience of the Widow to meet Elijah’s needs.
The brook dried up though the Prophet had been directed to the brook by the Spirit of God and the ravens had been feeding him. This is a pointer to the fact that we must be constantly listening to God’s voice as our instructions may change, though God never changes.
This year some of you need to be sensitive as your instructions will change. There may be people out there who are operating in dried up brooks, who are complaining that their Country is not working, though God told you to RELOCATE to said Country.
As many complaining that the business or vision God told them to start is no longer working, listen; the brook has dried up, you need to HEAR WHAT GOD is saying now.
When Elijah asked the widow for water she promptly obeyed and proceeded to get the water. As she was going the Prophet asked her to bring a piece of bread. At that point the widow objected and said she only had a little. The Prophet encouraged her to bring him some food first from her meagre resources.
If the widow had given just the water, it would have made the barrel of flour and cruze of oil to run dry. The larger your sacrifice, the larger your reward.
When Elijah got to Zarephath he met a widow who was gathering sticks to take home and make a meal for herself and her son so they may eat and die.
Typically, when we eat, the food is supposed to nourish our bodies and make us lively. But in the case of the Widow of Zarephath she was about to prepare her last meal before dying.
Infact she was gathering sticks, BUSY BUT NOT FRUITFUL, BUSY UNTO DESTRUCTION.
Are you in such a situation of toiling where though you are hardworking, yet you never expect a good outcome?, Are you gathering sticks to prepare a final meal? With Jesus, you EAT TO LIVE and NOT TO DIE. As John 6:57 declares, “As the Living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me”.
As you eat the LIVING WORD, THE BREAD OF LIFE you will live.
Shalom
