GRADUAL SUCCESS

steps-to-success Exodus 23:29-30 (NLT)     But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals would multiply and threaten you. 30 I will drive them out a little at a time until your population has increased enough to take possession of the land. Many times in our journey to success, we may experience certain frustrations and we often wonder why. It is good to be motivated and to have a can-do spirit. Indeed the promises of God are sure and with God all things are possible. There are times when we have done everything right and we believe God for certain things but those things just seem delayed or do not manifest at our time of expectation. God’s words to the children of Israel in Exodus 23:29-30 confirms the fact that God’s promises are sure but HIS TIMING is very crucial. The millions of Israelites marching through the wilderness for 40years would have wanted nothing more than God clearing their land for them and driving out the inhabitants so they can possess the land. But God said, “I WILL NOT DRIVE THEM OUT IN A SINGLE YEAR”, so that the land will not become desolate. Friends there are some things we desire in our lives to happen so bad so fast but guess what God may delay them for our own good. Driving out those inhabitants was a good thing but the consequences would have been bad. When success comes faster than the maturity to handle it desolation sets in. When success manifests in a life of weak character, disaster explodes. Even in business if more customers come than you have the capacity to cater for, there will be chaos. God told the Israelites, I will drive them out a little at a time until your population has increased enough to take possession of the land. God will usually give us gradual opportunities as we build capacity. The human nature is always in a rush, we rush our children through school, we pride ourselves in being rich at a young age. But God wants us to be patient and build the necessary capacity for the breakthrough or success that we desire. Many dreams are delayed, timelines shifted, goals readjusted but eventually success and an enduring one at that is achieved. Be patient as God’s timing will never be too late. Delay is not denial; learn your necessary lessons so that you can withstand the winds of adversity that may come with your success. Be well grounded, seek to learn and not just to shine. Seek to serve and not just pursing fame. Build up in strength, wisdom, knowledge and increase your capacity so that your success can have a strong unshakable base. Shalom Busola Jegede

THE CHRISTIAN SOLDIER AND SPIRITUAL SENSITIVITY

woman-soldier Text: Judges 7 v 1-8 Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him rose early and encamped beside the well of Harod, so that the camp of the Midianites was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the valley. And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’ Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once from Mount Gilead.’” And twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained. But the Lord said to Gideon, “The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. Then it will be, that of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ the same shall go with you; and of whomever I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ the same shall not go.” So he brought the people down to the water. And the Lord said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set apart by himself; likewise everyone who gets down on his knees to drink.” And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water. Then the Lord said to Gideon, “By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place.” So the people took provisions and their trumpets in their hands. And he sent away all the rest of Israel, every man to his tent, and retained those three hundred men. Now the camp of Midian was below him in the valley.   Though GOD was with Gideon, physical and spiritual sensitivity on the part of the soldiers was necessary for victory. God has not given us the spirit of fear; the first batch to be dropped were the fearful soldiers. Fear in your life will hinder your effectiveness spiritually, physically, as a leader or as a team member. A fearful soldier will be an ineffective follower and can jeopardise the success of the army. God reduced the army from 32,000 to 10,000, then to 300 to prove that self sufficiency is an enemy of faith. God does not share His glory so we must know that our sufficiency is of God. Men with the Joshua and Caleb anointing are needed to advance the work of God. These are men and women that will not be deterred by the enormity of a problem but are propelled by faith and trust in the ability of God When God wanted to reduce the army from 10,000 to 300, the criterion was the manner in which they drank water. Some soldiers were kneeling to drink whilst some scooped water in their hands and lapped. Those who knelt were dropped because; they lost sight of their environment, their focus and vision was cut off as they bent down; as they knelt their guards were down, they were no longer sensitive. Kneeling to drink water means you are only focused on the water you are about to drink and not concerned about other things around you. Do you allow issues bothering you to overwhelm you that you do not think of the big picture in your life? Do you use your energy and time on the small, irrelevant, controversial issues rather than being spiritual and focused on the big picture of what the Lord is doing in your life? Those who scooped water in their hands to drink to were only three hundred and they were the chosen ones. As they stood their eyes were vigilant, their posture was battle ready. As a soldier of Christ you must be ready at all times with an attitude prayer, submission to God, reverence His Spirit. Taking the water in the hand is a sign of carefulness, avoidance of waste and thoughtfulness; As a Christian soldier you weigh your words, actions and associations in the church and the society at large, you should be the one who is ever prayerful and sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. A Christian is a soldier in God’s army, sensitivity is needed for you to be effective in your calling or ministry. Let go of unimportant things, and major on positive things. Let go of rumour, gossip, bitterness, complaining and murmuring. Focus on what is important and choose to align your thoughts with GOD always. Romans 14 v 19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. To be spiritually sensitive, you must learn and know the language of the Holy Spirit, know how He talks to you uniquely. Know and understand how to hear GOD. Galatians 6 v 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. – To bear someone’s burden, you must have the ability to receive the burden. What blocks our sensitivity – Galatians 5 v 17- 21  For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[a] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders,[b] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.   Others are: Rebellion, Pride, and Antagonism. Gal 5 v 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. – Walk in the Spirit Know you are working for God and not for man. Lift up the hands of the servant of God in prayers. Check your life and get rid of filthiness, bitterness, envy, anger immediately as these would hinder your walk and your work for GOD. Do not join evil company and gang up. Luke 11 v 23  He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters. Luke 11 v 17 But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls. Isaiah 32 v 6 For the foolish person will speak foolishness, And his heart will work iniquity: To practice ungodliness, To utter error against the Lord, To keep the hungry unsatisfied, And he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.   A house divided against itself. Do not use the microphone to say things derogatory to the ministry     Shalom Busola Jegede

FILLING THE WATER POTS

index t   John 2:1-11 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.”His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” 11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.   In Cana of Galilee, Jesus performed His first miracle by turning water to wine. But one thing was outstanding- the OBEDIENCE of the men. That was instrumental to FAITH in God’s word bringing the miraculous. There were six pots containing 30 gallons each. About 180 gallons of water was fetched by the men. Verse 7 says they filled them up to the BRIM. What thoughts went on in the minds of these men as they were fetching water and pouring in the pots? Many times our lives are like that particular event. We just go on fetching water and pouring in the pot and it is a WALK OF FAITH. Fetching that water was a step of faith. There are activities we need to engage in to unlock our miracles and promises. We fill the water pots of our lives as a sign of obedience to God’s command and TRUST IN HIS WORD. We fill the water pots of our life in anticipation of what God will do. Some of us may need to fill all the water pots and it may take some time but God will eventually turn the water to wine. We need to continue in obedience filling our water pots with faith statements, confession of God’s word, love, prayer and patience. Surely our water will be turned to wine. Water turned to wine; Ordinary becoming extra ordinary, Value coming out of what is common, Power coming from simplicity. Keep filling those water pots!! Shalom Busola Jegede

MENTOR OR TORMENTOR

angry-to-happy-300x300    Facebook has a feature which I noticed recently; it shows you throwback pictures of what you posted years back. Sometimes you can see a suggestion to share or re post a picture you took three years back. One of such pictures provoked these thoughts in me and I decided to put pen to paper. My throw back on Facebook was one of my dear Protegees, my dearly beloved “Daughter in the Lord’’. Such a close bond we shared, such a beautiful relationship we “had”. Then she moved on, changed location but I could sense it was beyond the change in location. She seemed to have out grown our relationship. I tried so hard as I could not come to terms with the fact that she was just not responsive to calls and other effort to keep in touch. At first it was disturbing to me and I “feared’’ that maybe she had fallen out of faith and did not want to respond to “Mama Pastor’’ but on a closer watch, I could see the sincerity in her person. Then it dawned on me - my protegee has outgrown our relationship, she has moved on. She had to gently but firmly make her stand known, not in strife but in silence, making me know she was okay but that she was in a new reality, and she had to evolve. Mentor /Protegee relationship is one that is very important especially for the Protegee.
  • A mentor gives you handles so you can climb faster than you would have done on your own.
  • A mentor gives you a lift and helps you to achieve faster than others who do not have the privilege of tutelage.
  • A mentor shows you the right path and points out the pitfalls on your journey to success.
These and many more make a Protegee attached to his/her Mentor. But it must be said that this relationship as sweet and beneficial as it is does have a flip side. Protegees can fall into error if they begin to go beyond respect and honor to idolize their Mentors because God hates idolatry. Mentors can be displaced by God himself if he/she resorts to taking the GLORY which always belongs to GOD. However the issue that struck me as a Mentor is that one should learn to LET PEOPLE go without having a feeling of “ENTITLEMENT” over their lives. Many are in strife today because they feel pained, cheated and angry that someone left their ministry or their tutelage. While people should not be rude or unbecoming in the manner they disengage, we must realize that “NO ONE OWNS ANYONE”. If God has used you to bring up someone do not feel bad, curse, or threaten if the person decides to move on. As a matter of fact you should announce and encourage these whom God has called to step out and let them know you will genuinely release and support them and make good your word. When a Mentor makes a Protegee feel that he/she owes him for life, then you become a Tormentor rather than a Mentor. Let people go and love them genuinely even if they do not come back to you. It is God that will reward you for your labor of love over His sheep in His kingdom. Do not curse those who leave your ministry, tutelage or organization. Leave an open door, they may likely come back just to appreciate you and not necessarily coming back to be mentored by you again. Realize the sordid truth, the young shall grow and people sometimes outgrow relationships and are at a loss as to how to handle it. As a Protegee, if you leave your mentor for any reason, do not bite the hand that fed you. Uphold the person in respect and do not speak evil about the person especially if it is uncalled for. Do not try to justify your exit by bringing down your Mentor, except there was an issue which you should carefully work out prayerfully with a lot of tact and wisdom. Appreciate your mentor whenever you can without feeling guilty for leaving if God has so ordered your steps. Shalom Busola Jegede

STEPPING OUT

trust_him_step_out   STEPPING OUT In Matthew 14:1, the bible says Herod heard of the fame of Jesus. This year your beauty will be heard of globally in Jesus name. In verse 2 of Matthew 14 we read the account of how Herod was being hunted by the ghost of John the Baptist. When he heard of the fame of Jesus, he said this is John the Baptist risen from the dead. Can I prophesy to someone in this year of Absolute Possibility that no matter the limitations or battles the enemy has planned just as Herod could not kill the message of John the Baptist though he beheaded him, you will be unstoppable in Jesus name. Herod realized that though he killed the person of John the Baptist he could not kill HIS MESSAGE. In verse 8 of Matthew 14 we read of Herod’s dilemma at the evil request of Herodia’s daughter: Give me the head of John the Baptist in a charger. Today I decree that any situation asking for your head, the head of marriage, the head of your ministry, will not prosper in Jesus name. When the head is off, the crown is lost. So it is a year of deep sensitivity. Due to the glorious destiny that you have you need to guard your head. To step out this year your steps must be ordered by God. Herodias was a patient, unrepentant and relentless enemy. This year we will not fall into the hands of people with evil patience in Jesus name. Our lot/fate, the lot of our spouses and children will not be determined by the enemy of our souls in Jesus name. Matthew 14:13 says when Jesus heard of what had happened to John the Baptist he retreated by himself. Whenever we see storms on our way we need to seek God for strength, refire and move on with our assignment. The death of John the Baptist could have discouraged Jesus if he was not focused on his assignment. In the course of this Jesus performed the miracle of feeding 5,000 men besides men & children. In Matthew 14:25-31 , Jesus went onto them walking on the sea. Jesus was demonstrating, revealing by action a new dimension of the super natural that was available for the disciples to tap into. Jesus went unto them, he was reaching out to the disciples, communicating to them something profound. Someone reading this, Jesus has been reaching out to you- giving you visions, ideas, thoughts that seem lofty, seemingly unachievable. No matter what height God is calling you to this year, He has already gone ahead of you. Before Jesus told Peter to step out of the boat he himself had walked on the water. Jesus had already walked on the waters of that big idea or vision He put in your heart so do not be afraid. The major limitation that will keep you is FEAR. Like the disciples who saw Jesus walking on water became afraid, fear will try to stop you from stepping out to your absolute possibilities. Matthew 14 Verse 27-28 says Jesus spoke out to them, Be of good cheer, it is I, be not afraid. Peter asked for confirmation that if it was Jesus he should ask him to come. Jesus answered him in the affirmative, PETER INDEED WALKED ON WATER. What made Peter stand out from the other eleven and what made him step out. 1) Absolute trust in Jesus’ command or instruction. Peter did not go at the suggestion of other disciples, he double checked with Jesus and he stepped out. This year trust the WORD of GOD released to you and ACT ON IT. 2) ABSOLUTE DEPENDENCE ON THE EFFICACY OF GOD’S WORD When Peter stepped out he knew that humanly speaking one would sink when on water, but by experience and his walk with Jesus he knew he had the power to do the miraculous. Rather than allow the fear of seeing Jesus walking on water and mistaking him for a spirit to make him cower or hide, he cashed in on it and stepped out. This year recognize your MIRACULOUS moment where you will ride on your fears, storms and weaknesses and translate them into stepping stones to greatness. If your land lord is throwing you out, it is time to ride on it and build your own house. If you are losing that job it is time to ride on it and start your vision. You need to STEP OUT. In verse 29 Jesus said come. The Lord is calling someone here to come step out of that comfort zone, this year 2016 come up higher, come apart and be with God. Do not let fear limit you; remember Jesus has walked on your waters before he told you to step out. The bridges have been built, the boat is waiting for you by the river, the brook is waiting, the ravens have been instructed, the widow has been commanded, do not hold back. The boisterous sea will not consume you because you will ride over it. Psalm 90:17, says let the beauty of the Lord God be upon us and establish the works of our hands. This year we have been beautified to STEP OUT to the world.
  • Step out to Absolute Possibility
  • Step out to Greatness
  • Step out and begin to do that which God has called you to do.
Strength has been released to you. Be courageous. Strength and courage backed up by your faith will make you unstoppable. This year DARE to be different. DARE to speak. Dare to stand up with God and be counted for Christ. As you step out, go in the might of God, in humility, in holiness & righteousness. Never neglect the one who called you to step out. Have a deeper walk with the Holy Spirit, listen out for His voice. Never ever look at the boisterous storm. Do not allow the devil to distract you from your divine assignment. No matter the weight of your anointing, promises, power and investment, if you do not step out there will be no manifestation. Busola Jegede
